Just a quick little sketch for this week’s Oz Comics Draw Off.

This was made for the OzComics Drawoff and because Hellboy is damned awesome. Drawn with red pencil, coloured in photoshop.

Inspired by your friend and mine Simon Sherry I thought I should churn out a quick 10 minute lunchtime sketch, by Crom!

This is the linework for my fourth watercolour experiment. This was drawn with a fountain pen, which I think I actually prefer to felt tip or biro because the ink still feels very liquid. Of course that could mean disaster when I add water with the paint, but we’ll see. That’s the point of doing these experiments after all.

Here it is, watercolour experiment number 3.. although it’s probably more an experiment in Copic markers than anything. One big piece of feedback from the Batman piece was to get a bit more contrast in there, so I wanted to do something with really solid blacks.. and we know Mignola is the master of that.

I’m actually pretty happy with how this turned out.. initially when I started with the watercolours I thought I had stuffed it up, but the red has faded down a bit. Then when all I had was a dark brown marker I thought that would cause a problem too, but it was dark enough. I would have liked something with a finer tip so I could get the details in a bit better, but all in all I think it’s okay. I’ve tweaked the levels just a little in photoshop to make the dark darker and the red redder.

So yes, this is piece number 3. You can see my first watercolour here and my second here.

Here is a sketch I did for no other reason than Batman is cool. I’m considering having at it with watercolours.. what do you think?
